When I walk, I walk down by
the water because the water is the edge. It is the end
place where you cannot go any further.
It's comforting to know
something stronger is pushing back. It is also a connector
- a bridge of direct contact to other unseen continents & cultures,
"One hundred miles out to
sea
the beauty is phenomenal.
It's magical. It's mysterious."
- Kovel
This place - the deep ocean
- is the inspiration for the work of Kovel, who once
sold his tuna catches commercially, is today an artist
who brings a unique vision to his art, inspired by
life in the world's oceans. He is a voice for the fish
and marine life, whose habitats are rapidly shifting
out of balance. He works in wood, steel, styrofoam,
aluminum, plexiglass, wire - a multitude of materials
- to create everything from huge fish mounted on the
walls a public school and a major marine aquarium,
to small whimsical sea creatures + jewelry.
